DnY Arts and Crafts

September 8, 2016

Dear friends of mine started their own passion project as well, they are called DnY Arts and Crafts. Mainly because it is the brainchild of Danah and Yen who are my co-volunteers during a Type Kita event last December.

My DnY-ed Case!

DnY Arts and Crafts is the passion project of my type sisters, Danah and Yen. They are best friends forever and both enthusiastic about arts and crafts and calligraphy. I met them during last Type Kita exhibit called Pass on the Passion. We were all volunteers for that two-day event. I sincerely thank God and the universe for letting us meet through volunteering for that specific event. Knowing that we became friends through that, now we have a stronger bond similar to family.

The Story

How they came to be? Well, Yen celebrated her birthday months ago and we made it special. Danah had such a great surprise! It was a phone cover which she did with all her sweat and blood (not literally 😂). As Yen have told me, that started what is now, DnY. Both work hand in hand with the deliveries, orders and doing the cases themselves.

From canvassing their materials, to drafting and eventually packaging, they are the ones who really worked so much. As a fellow calligraphy enthusiast, I always support with all my mind, heart and soul. When they spread the word about opening their shop, accepting orders, I instantaneously knew what to order! I ordered a phone case with two back covers with intricate details written in Baybayin script.

To those who may wonder what is Baybayin script, it is the first-ever way of writing among Filipinos. To some they may call it Alibata, but the proper term is Baybayin. Honestly, I used to call it Alibata but thanks to Yen, she enlightened about Baybayin & Alibata. So if you come across this, I hope you picked up something new! 😊

So, from a birthday gift to a passion project, anything’s really possible as long as you put your heart and soul into it!

These phone covers are being sold for Php 200 (USD 4.312) which is really affordable. One phone case comes with two (2) back covers already. Those covers are guaranteed to be quality-made and really artistically done.

You get to choose if:

  • Baybayin Script
  • Brush Script

Options:

  • Gold calligraphy/lettering artwork over black paper
  • Water colored calligraphy/lettering artwork over white paper

What I chose was the Baybayin script in gold calligraphy on black paper because primarily, my phone is gold. So, I wanted some uniformity in color. In truth, I was not disappointed! They really delivered the item on the said date and gave updated about my order, through email and text. How convenient is that?

My phone case and covers.

If you watched my video, you could somehow feel my excitement when I received my package. It was really an ecstatic feeling. Yen even told me that she’s scared if how would I react. Yet, in the end, we were all very happy. Supporting one another in each others’ endeavors.

To order these amazing phone covers, go here and fill out the needed details. For now, they only have orders within Metro Manila and Rizal. Soon enough, they’ll be shipping nationwide and eventually, worldwide.

After finding another phone case, I placed the other phone cover there.

You are so surrounded by artistic people. You yourself is so creative and galing din. I should be with these kind of people din so the creative juices (should there be any) e talagang lumabas. Ehehe.

But seriously, that is a nice concept. And a nice way to further your talent to the next level and at the same time share what youve got. Passion really moves people. I love their passion.

I have been inlove with Alibata/Baybayin Script since highschool. These phone cases look good and artsy. Are they sturdy enough? I’ve been contemplating what phone case to buy for my Z3 and haven’t been able to decide yet.

That’s interesting, always nice to hear stories of projects and business birthed out of passion. I love calligraphy too but have yet to think of what to do with it. Love that the phone case has a very cool meaning culturally as well with the special font used, what a conversation starter it would be.

I love DIYs! It’s interesting that you were able to mix art (calligraphy) and history to create good phone cases! Are you gonna sell these stuff online too?

That is quite a lovely background story! These are lovely phone cases and great as personalized gifts, too! I wonder if they have a pop-up somewhere where people can go to check out their wares. It should also be very interesting to learn baybayin one of these days!
